Killer is Dead is an action/hack-and-slash game released in 2013 for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. It is directed by Goichi Suda, developed by Grasshopper Manufacture and published by Kadokawa Games in Japan, XSEED in North America and Deep Silver in Europe.

Concept[]

Mondo Zappa, a hired assassin living in the near future, receives jobs from a firm run by the cyborg Bryan Roses. He wields a sword with his right hand and his robotic left hand can be converted into a wide variety of weapons. Suda calls it a "personal story" of "a man who doesn't show himself much in the public world but still worms his way into society and mercilessly eliminates the evil dispersed in it". The game's central themes involve "love and execution" and "how far you can go to protect someone".

It goes back to Suda's "assassin" roots of Killer7 and No More Heroes and Suda has said that it is set in more or less the same universe as No More Heroes. It was at first going to use a realistic artstyle just like Shadows of the Damned and Lollipop Chainsaw, but the development team later decided against it, and went with an anime-like artstyle with "abstract" shading, similar to what No More Heroes used.

Juliet Starling, the protagonist of Suda's previous game, Lollipop Chainsaw, makes a cameo appearance in Episode 51, a DLC chapter. In Japan, a contest was held in which one lucky person who found the hidden Juliet could win a full-size replica of Mondo's sword.

How to find Juliet[]

In Episode 51, look around until you find a barrel shaking around on a high ledge. Simply shoot it open in order to free her.

Trivia[]

  • When Juliet jumps away after being freed, the jumping sound is a recycled sound clip from Lollipop Chainsaw, played whenever Juliet performs the Big Jump.
